Casal da Serrana

The origins of this beautiful property date back to the mid-19th century, when the Palace of Pena (a few km away) was under construction and Sir Francis Cook began his work in the gardens of Monserrate.

This property is located on the northern slope of the Serra de Sintra and enjoys a view over Praia das Maçãs and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. Nestled in the contours of the hill, the property is protected from the wind. This region enjoys a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.

In this residence lived the famous painter and composer Alfredo Keil, who composed celebrated operas such as “D. Bianca” — which he wrote and completed in the property — and “Serrana”, his crowning achievement. This is why the residence is called “Casal da Serrana”.

Located on the outskirts of a quiet village and about 2 km from the coast. The town of Colares has all amenities and is about 3 minutes away. More extensive amenities are found in the Sintra World Heritage site. Lisbon and the seaside towns of Cascais and Estoril are all easily accessible. This region is well known for its excellent sports facilities, which include a good selection of golf courses.
